CARTERTON SALE. FAT SHEEP SELL WELL. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co Ltd report as follows:—We held our weekly sale at Carterton yesterday, when a fairly big entry came forward. The sheep entry was comprised chiefly of small to medium lambs. These did not elicit very strong competition but practically all pens changed hands. The few fat sheep offered sold very well. Fat cows were in strong demand and store cows also met with a ready sale. A few cows and heifers in milk were offered, but met with a very limited denfand. Pigs sold at last week’s rates. Prices were as follow:
Sheep: Prime heavy wethers, to 245, prime heavy ewes, to 17s 3d, prime heavy lambs. 25s to 26s 6d, fat lambs 17s 3d to 17s 9d. fat b.f.’c to 22s 6d, ewes with lambs at foot, to 14s 2d, all counted, store ewes, to 6s 3d. medium b.f. lambs, 9s 6d to 10s 2d, small shorn ewe lambs. 6s 9d to 8s Id, small shorn wether lambs. 6s 3d, 7s 6d. 8s sd, to 8s 9d. woolly ewe lambs, Ils lOd, 12s 7d to 15s Id. small woolly wether lambs, 6s Id. 7s. 7s Id. to 7s 4d. cull lambs, 2s, 3s, 3s 3d. 4s, 5 s,ss Id, to 5s 3d, medium woolly wether lambs, to 10s, small b.f. lambs. 6s 3d, Gs 7d, 8s 9d. to 9s.
Cattle: Jersey heifers, just calved, to £7 10s, fat cows, £5 to £5 13s, forward cows, £3 6s to £4 17s 6d. store cows, £2 to £2 12s 6d, cull cows to £1 10s, cows and calves, £5 6s, £6, to £7 2s 6d. bulls, £5 19s, £7, £7 6s, £8 7s 6d, £lO 7s to £ll.
Pigs: Baconers £3 to £3 7s 6d; heavy porkers £2 5s to £2 11s: porkers 32s to £2 Is; light porkers 26s to 30s; store pigs 20s to 255; slips 18s to 19s; weaners (good) 14s to 16s: weaners (medium! 3s to 13s; weaners (small) 5s to 7s; P.B. Berkshire boar to 4j'gns: sows and litters £2 to £3 ss.
EKETAHUNA SALE
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.. Ltd., report having held their weekly sale at Eketahuna on Thursday, when they offered 1750 sheep, mostly lambs. Competition for good grown lambs was fairly keen, bin smaller lambs were little in demand. They were successful in disposing of the whole yarding and the following are the prices:— Sheep:Good rape b.f. lambs, 16s 6d to 15s 3d, medium b.f. lambs. 13s to Ils; w.f. woolly lambs, 15s 3d'to 12s; medium w.f. woolly lambs, 9s to 8s; good sh. wr. lambs, 14s 6d to,. 12s; medium sh. wr. lambs, 10s to 8s; good woolly ewe lambs. 18s to 17s; small do., 14s to 3s; fat ewes, 14s 6d. Cattle: 18-mos. heifers, £3 10s; 18mos. steers. £4 10s; heifers with calves at foot. £5 10s. Pigs: 20s, 17s to 13s.
