EKETAHUNA

RETURNED SOLDIERS MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the executive committee o fthe Eketahuna Returned Soldiers' Association was held on Tuesday, Mr W. M. Morriss (vicepresident) being in the chair. The question of universal compulsory military service was discussed, and the meeting passed a resolution strongly supporting the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association that such service should be introduced into this country. Feeling reference was also made to the late Mr H. Youle. who had been a valuable member of the association for a number of years. At the conclusion of the meeting, Mi' H. Dearie, who has just returned from a trip to the Old Country, gave a most interesting account of conditions in England and at sea during war-time. His talk was much appreciated by the members of the committee. In thanking Mr Dearie, the chairman said that apparently people in New Zealand did not realise how well o.’t they were during these trying times. Personals. Miss Marjorie Rowe, Penrose, is visiting her grandparents. Mr and Mrs J. F. Baillie, Macara Street. Mr J. H. Berney is visiting Masterton. Mrs T. Hunter, Stanley Street, is visiting relatives in Wanganui. Miss M. Wilson, of. Eketahuna. and Miss Stephens of Greytown are touring in the South Island, visiting Dunedin, Queenstown, and The Hermitage. Included among the guests at the Claris-Stevens wedding at Pahiatua on Tuesday night were Capes and Mr R. Capes (Eketahuna) and Mr N. Hislop (Tiraumea). Wedding. A pretty wedding took place at St Peter’s Anglican Church. Pahiatua, on Tuesday night, when Zona Evelyn daughter of Mr and Mrs E. Stevens, Pahiatua, was married to Gordon Keith, son of Mr and Mrs W ,H. J. Claris, of Wellington. The officiating minister was the Rev K. F. Button. Rain. Eketahuna’s spell of hot, dry weather terminated yesterday morning when a light drizzle set in. which continued practically all day. A high wind from the north-west began last evening and more rain is probable. The river at the swing bridge reserve has been' a popular spot for picknickers during the past few days. The Makakahi River is very low at present and the anglers are experiencing a lean time.
