FIGHTING PLANES
PURCHASES FROM UNITED STATES TEN THOUSAND MACHINES IN 18 MONTHS. WANTED BY BRITISH OFFICIALS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 12.10 p.m.) NEW YORK. January 10. The United Press Washington correspondent says British purchasing officials have informed aviation circles that they will need a minimum of ten thousand more American planes during the next eighteen months to assure air supremacy over Germany. The British and Franch combined production is estimated at fifteen hundred planes monthly. Britain expects to reach a peak production of 2,200 planes a month by May. British and French orders to American factories at present are 5,000. The American aircraft industry is capable of producing 1.700 to 1,800 planes a month.
