SQUADRONS ENGAGE

FAR OUT OVER NORTH SEA ENEMY FIGHTERS BEATEN OFF. BRITISH RECONNAISSANCE COMPLETED. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 12.7 p.m.) RUGBY, January 10. The Air Ministry announces: “In the course of a reconnaissance today, a formation of the R.A.F. on its outward journey encountered a number of longrange enemy fighters far out over the North Sea. A running fight ensued lasting for half an hour. One Messerschmitt 110 was seen to crash into the sea and it is already known that another was forced to land in Denmark. One of our aircraft was lost, but the remainder, having beaten off the enemy, continued to the easterly limit of their reconnaissance and returned safely."
