RECRUITING CAMPAIGN

GOOD RESPONSE CONTINUES IN EAST COAST AREA. NUMBER WELL ABOVE SECOND ECHELON. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. The recruiting campaign continues to have splendid results, as is shown by the number 7 area (Hawke’s Bay-Gisborne-Wairarapa). which has now 146 men available above its second echelon quota of 315. Area 8 (Taranaki) has made an appreciable jump after being well down, and is now within 56 of the total required for the present appeal. Area C (Wanganui - Palmerston North) has still a good deal of leeway to make up, there being a difference of 164 between the-balance available from there and the quota. Wellington is moving forward fast and, with several hundred men still to be medically examined, of whom 60 per cent should be classed fit, the second echelon goal ’ is in sight. It is emphasised that the filling of the second echelon quota is not sufficient, but that men must continue to come forward to fill the third echelon and reinforcements. WAIRARAPA ENLISTMENTS.
