The dress was finished with tiny satin buttons down the back with a silver girdle. The veil of stiffened net was caught up with a coronet of orange blossom and fell in folds to form a flowing train. A bouquet of powder blue delphiniums added to the charming effect. The bridesmaids, Misses Betty Gregor, Greytown (chief), and Nan Sutton (Masterton) were dressed alike in gowns of blue sheer over satin with ruckings and gatherings to fall on full cut lines, the full sleeves being puffed. They carried bouquets of salmon pink gladioli and carnations, and wore pearl necklaces, gifts of the bridegroom. The flower girl. "Miss Peg Laing (neice of the bride) wore a miniature replica of the bridesmaids’ dresses. Mr John Sutton (nephew of the bridegroom) carried out the duties of best man. Messrs Harold Lane and Alan Sutton were ushers at the church. A reception was subsequently held at the Masonic Hall, where Mrs Laing, who was attired in a frock of navy figured sheer, with pleated skirt and bodice, and carried a bouquet of gladioli, carnations and maidenhair fern, received the guests, assisted by Mrs Johnston (mother of the bridegroom) who wore a black frock, with touches of white, a tailored coat, and black hat. She carried a bouquet to tone. Mr and Mrs Johnston left later on a motor tour, Mrs Johnston being attired in an Air Force blue costume with quilted embroidery, a hat and coat to match, and she carried a crocodile purse, a gift of the bridegroom. Mr and Mrs Johnston will take up their residence at Tinui.
