AMATEUR ATHLETICS MEETING OF COMMITTEE. ("Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the Eketahuna Amateur Athletic Sports Club was held at the Fire Station on Monday evening. The president (Mr. S. Daniel) presided over the following members: Messrs. R. Payne, S. J. O'Regan. H. Rogers, A. Banstead. A. L. Wilson and C. Hausman (secretary). As this was the final meeting prior to Sports Day (February 3) arrangements in connection with that gathering were finalised. The question of side shows was leff in the hands of the president and secretary. A grant of 15s. was.made to members of the club who attend the Country Clubs’'championships to be held at Lower Hutt on January 13. The following officials were appointed for the sports: Judges, Messrs. J. S. Tripe, W. Olsen, R. Payne and B. Dennan; track stewards, Messrs. H. M. Daniel, W. Hornblow, L. Russell and A. Boustead; lap stewards, Messrs. H. E. Greathead, W. Oldham; time-keeper, Mr. G. .lesson; gatekeepers, Messrs. F. Hooper. H. Dearie. A. Ramsay, L. Eagle, F. Preston and T. F. Edge; sheep-guessing. Messrs. T. Parsons and R. Dickson; chain-stepping. Mr. R. Farrow; baby show, left in the hands of the Plunket Society Committee. It was resolved that the club conduct a side show. The secretary was instructed to arrange for the installation of a public address system. It was decided that all trophy orders remain open. The secretary was authorised to make arrangements in connection with the tea rooms, stall and the dance to be held in the evening. A working bee to prepare the grounds was arranged for Sunday, January 28. FIRE BRIGADE MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Fire Brigade was held last night. Superintendent H. Rogers presiding over a good attendance of members. Correspondence "was received from the U.F.B.A. dealing with the conference and demonstration to. be held at Petone early in March. As an outcome, Supt. Rogers was nominated as a vicepresident of the Association as well as the Brigade’s delegate to the conference. Fireman G. Jessen and Mr. H. E. Greathead were nominated as officials to the demonstration. The secretary was instructed to forward the name of Fireman V. Kendall to U.F.B.A. headquarters for inclusion on the roll of members serving with the Forces. It was decided, on the Pahiatua Brigade’s request, to hold the annual Inter-Brigade Shield competition on February 17, at Eketahuna. Fireman M. Carter applied for three months’ leave of absence, which was granted. Fireman J. Hodgson tendered his resignation, which was accepted with regret. The Rongomai Cricket Club challenged the Brigade to a game of cricket to be played at an early date. The challenge was accepted. The brigade three-man shield event will take place on February 20. After the conclusion of business, a social hour was enjoyed and opportunity was taken to present Firemen Carter and Hodgson with parting gifts. A very pleasant time was spent in song and story. The chief toast —that of the departing members —was proposed by Supt. Rogers, who paid a warm tribute to the deep interest Messrs. Carter and Hodgson had always taken in brigade maters. Other speakers endorsed the sentiments expressed by the superintendent. Mr. Rogers presented Fireman Carter with a safety razor and Fireman Hodgson with a leather travelling bag. The recipients suitably returned thanks. After other toasts had been honoured the .gathering was brought to a close with the singing of Auld Lang Syne. Personal Items. Mrs. J. Drysdale, Macara .Street, returned on Saturday from a visit to the Centennial Exhibition. Miss P. Wyeth is a visitor to Wellington. | Miss T. Watts, who has been visiting' her parents, has returned to Wellington. Borough Rates. Notice is given in this issue to Eketahuna Borough ratepayers that the 10 per cent, penalty will be added to all rates unpaid after February 1.
