AIR TRAINING
APPOINTMENT OF AUSTRALIAN CHIEF OF STAFF. DEFENDED BY MINISTER. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. MELBOURNE, January 8. The Air Minister, Mr Fairbairn, today replied to criticism by the Country Party leaders of Sir Charles Burnett's appointment as chief of the air staff of the Australian Air Force. Mr Fairbairn declared that there was nobody in Australia with the experience of large-scale flying training such as the Commonwealth was about to undertake under the Empire air scheme. “Sir Charles Burnett.” he added, "is a man of exceptional ability, with the whole problem of air training at his finger-tips.” Mr Fairbairn repudiated the Country Party’s suggestion that Sir Charles Burnett’s apopintment amounted to a disparagement of the ability of Australian Air Force officers.
