The Hon C. G. Latham, Leader of the Opposition in Western Australia, has left Wellington on his return to Australia.
The Rev H. J. Lilburn, formerly of Hamilton, has received a unanimous call to St James’s Presbyterian Church, Wellington Street, Auckland, according to an Auckland Press Association message. The induction will take place in February. Yesterday, the following signed the register at the Empire Hotel, Masterton: Messrs M. Martin and H. Herbert (Wellington); R. Hills (Gisborne); R. Suckling (Dannevirke); W. Ross (Palmerston North): H Williams Lower Hutt).
The death occurred suddenly yesterday morning in Waipukurau of Mr John Alexander Buchanan, aged 72 years. He had been retired for some years. Mr Buchanan successfully farmed the “Blackburn" station in the Makaretu district, and was highly esteemed throughout the district. He leaves a widow. The death occurred on Sunday of Mr John Benjamin Johnson, aged 78, one of Te Aroha’s earliest residents and business men, states a Press Association message. He started the present firm's hardware business 43 years ago and successfully farmed 600 acres of splendid dairying land for more than 30 years. Ho was a vicepresident of the Te Aroha Jockey Club for about 40 years and for lengthy terms was a prominent member of many town and district institutions.
