ROAD COLLISION
SEVEN PERSONS INJURED, NAVAL RATING ARRESTED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Several persons were injured on the main road to Heretaunga last evening when two motor-cars, one a rental car driven by a naval rating who was subsequently arrested, were involved in a collision. The injured are:— Mrs Winifred Sugden, wife of Captain A. IT. L. Sugden, of the Trentham military camp, and her three children, Patricia, aged nine, Mary, aged four, and Michael, aged seven. Miss Joan Somerset-Smith (Napier), who was the guest of Captain and Mrs Sugden. Herbert E. W. Phillips, of 100 Rintoul Street, Wellington, a wireless operator. Spencer Young, aged four (Silverstream ). All bu.t Michael Sugden received head injuries. Phillips also received concussion.
All the injured except Michael Sugden, who is suffering from shock, were taken to the Wellington Public Hospital by the Free Ambulance and military ambulance from the camp nearby. None was serious hurt. The accident occurred when a car driven by Miss Somerset-Smith, which was returning with Mrs Sugden and the children after a picnic, was turning into Captain Sugden’s residence, on the main road, and was struck by a rental car travelling in the same direction.
