FEILDING SALE. STORE SHEEP IN DEMAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING. January 5. Not a very large yarding came forward at Feilding today for the opening sale of 1940, but the stock offered was generally fair to good quality, and a keen sale resulted. The fat sheep entry was of light proportions, with wethers in main supply. Prices were well up to those of preChristmas sales, particularly for wethers. Extra prime wethers made 22s to 235, prime wethers 20s to 21s 6d, lighter 17s to 19s 6d; light hoggets, 18s; spring lambs, 19s 6d; extra prime ewes 16s Id to 17s Id, second quality 14s to 16s, light 8s Id to 13s 3d. Store sheep: There was an excellent demand for forward conditioned lambs, wether sorts being the principay supply. An outstanding line of Kumaroa-bred sheep made 18s Id, with tops of other lines up to 17s; small ewe lambs, 14s; extra good wether lambs 17s 8d to 18s Id, good 15s to 16s 2d, average sorts 13s Id to 14s 9d, backward 10s 3d to 12s 6d, cull 3s to 7s 8d; two-tooth wethers 14s lOd to 16s 9d.

Dairy cattle; Quite fair inquiry was shown for cows in milk, but backward springers were not wanted. Good cows in milk made from £8 2s 6d to £8 10s, springing cows £4; springing heifers £3 12s 6d to £4 15s. Store cattle: Boner cows commanded good prices in this department, but for other lines the sale mainly was slow; only a few head of station cattle were available. Forward two-three-year A.A. steers realised £7 19s, small yearling steers £3; boner cows, heavy £3 15s to £4 4s, others £2 6s to £3 12s 6d.

Fat cattle: Beef made a good sale, prime quality sorts being well up to prices ruling before the holidays. No weighty stock was offered, but finished good prime A.A. cows made £8 to £8 10s, second grade £6 10s to £6 17s 6d; ex dairy cows, heavy £5 15s to £6 10s others £3 17s 6d to £5 10s; prime A.A. heifers £8 10s, second quality £7 2s 6d to £7 13s 6d; ex-dairy heifers £5 10s to £6 12s 6d; vealers, heavy £4 light £2 7s 6d; runners, heavy £6 10s. Pigs—There was a good sale, with high prices. Weaners sold from 9s 6d to 12s 6d; slips from 21s to 255; stores 35s to 365; baconers £3 2s.
