MAURICEVILLE TALKIES

« SATURDAY'S ATTRACTION. A colourful, romantic period in American history is faithfully recreated in “Mother Carey’s Chickens,” which will be staged at the Mauriceville Theatre on Saturday. It unfolds its heart-warming charm and swee't simplicity—a long-sought relief from the madcap comedies and ponderous dramas. A stirring, true picturisation of the sympathetic modern classic by Kate Douglas Wiggin, “Mother Carey's Chickens,” features Anne Shirley, Ruby Keeler, James Ellison and Fay Bainter. The story of a humble New England home at the turn of the century is convincingly presented. The vivid story traces the romances of two sisters, who fall in love with the same man. Miss Keeler wins his affections, while Miss Shirley conquers her own jealousy. A romantic theme of the story is a mother’s dramatic efforts to keep her four children together and provide for them in the face of extreme privation. In addition to the brilliant, sensitive performances of Anne Shirley, Ruby Keeler and James Ellison, splendid portrayals are given by Fay Bainter. Ralph Morgan, Jackie Moran and young Donnie Dunagan.
