WIDER WAR
ANTICIPATED BY OVERSEA CORRESPONDENT DEVELOPMENT OF NAZI STRATEGY. "NORTH OR SOUTH-EAST OF GERMANY.” By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright: NEW YORK, January 3. Serious developments may be expected soon, probably nori h or south-east, of Germany, according to information reaching Canadian, authoritative quarters from the war zone, states Mr Bireliall, the Ottawa correspondent of fhe “New York Times.” An attempt to attack England from air and submarine bases in Norway is possible, but it is considered more likely that there will be developments in the Balkans and toward the Dardanelles in an attempt to open the Danube for exploitation as an avenue ol German supplies, after which the Germans will extend their field of operations to the Mediterranean. Russo-German collaboration, under German direction, is envisaged for such an attempt. It is believed that Britain is prepared for some such development and is closely watching the course of Italian diplomacy, which might be a decisive factor.
