FEATHERSTON
OFFICERS AS GUESTS ENTERTAINED BY RACING CLUB. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Wairarapa Racing Club entertained fourteen officers from the H.M.S. . Ramillies at the meeting yesterday. Among those at the official table were, Miss Card, Mesdames A. Campbell Pearce, D. H. S. Riddiford, D. C. Collins, H. Boothe, Miss J. Donald, Mrs D. Stout, Mrs H. Lawson, Miss'O. Nix and Mrs R. Cundy. The officers were-later entertained by Mrs C. Elgar. Personal. Mr and Mrs Pendergast, Auckland, paid a brief visit to Featherston during the holidays. Mr and Mrs J. Adams, Glen Afton, Waikato, are the guests of Mrs A. J. M. Leslie. Mr and Mrs Powell, Johnsonville, are visiting Mrs McLeod, Hayward Street. Mrs Brady, Wellington, is spending the holidays with her sister, Mrs A. Donald. Mrs Barry is a Dunedin visitor to Featherston. Miss Judith Luke, Wellington, is the guest of Miss Margaret Lawson. Mr and Mrs W. Robertson, Wellington, and Mr D. Heughan, Auckland, are guests of Mrs C. Rea. Mr and Mrs Jenkins, Wellington, are visitors of Mrs Parsons. Mrs G. Murphy tWellington) and Miss P. Edwards (Wellington) are spending the holidays with their mother, Mrs Chas Edwards. Mr R. Crawford, Wellington, is paying a visit to his parents, Mr and Mrs Crawford. Hayward Street. Visistors to the Vicarage yesterday included Bishop Holland. Captain H. T. Baillie-Grohman, and the Rev Stubbs, chaplain of H.M.S. Ramillies. Hedgehogs and Eggs. It is not generally known that the hedgehog is one of the greatest enemies of bird life, particularly birds that build their nests on the ground. A local resident caught a hedgehog on Sunday afternoon in a fowl’s nest eating the eggs therein.
