Mr and Mrs Fowell (Sydney) are at the Midland Hotel (Masterton.)
Mr T. B Fox, of Hastings, who has been seriously ill for some time, has now completely recovered. Mr and Mrs Hitchins are Wellington visitors to Masterton who are staying at the Empire Hotel.
Miss B. Morrison, Gisborne, is the guest of Mrs W. Aitken, Church Street. Master ton.
Mr and Mrs A. Young, of Masterton, left today for Wairoa, where they will spend a holiday with their son, Mr T. Young. «
Guests today at the Hotel Midland, Masterton. are Mr and Mrs Anderson. Mr and Mrs Livingstone, Mr and Miss Jobson, all of Gisborne, and Mr T. Higgins (Napier). Mr Alister Whyte Buchanan, of Masterton, has been granted a temporary commission as a Pilot-Officer in the general duties branch of the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
The death has occurred at Invercargill of Mr R. M. Isaacs, states a Press Association message from Dunedin. He was in turn district railways traffic manager at Ohakune, Dunedin. Wellington, Invercargill and Christchurch. Mr Isaacs was born in Dunedin 70 years ago. He represented Otago at Rugby from 1887 to 1892. and was a member of the management committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union for 13 years. He managed the All Blacks in Australia in 1914 and was one of the founders of the New Zealand Rugby Referees' Association, of which he was a life member. He was also a member of the New Zealand Rowing Association and the New Zealand Boxing Association.
The death has occurred of Mr James George Catran. headmaster of the Cambridge District High School. Mr Catran was corn in Auckland and spent much of nis early life at Thames. He was appointed to the staff of the Parawai School, and later held appointments at Tairua, Waipukurau. Maramarua. Hora Hora (Whangarei), Dcvonport and Newton East. At the age of 24 he was appointed headmaster of the Whitford School, and later he held similar positions at Woodhill. Kaupaki, Te Kopuru, Warkworth. Waiuku. and Cambridge. He had been headmaster of the Cambridge District High School for five years. Mr Catran tool; a keen interest in cricket, swimming, football, and bowling. He is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters.
