WEDDINGS
HILL—OLIPHANT. A quiet wedding took place at the Lansdowne Presbyterian Church recently, the contracting parties being Mary (Maisie) Swan, daughter of Mrs and the late Mr William Oliphant, Scotland, and Private Harry Hill, of Masterton, who is about to depart overseas with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. The ceremony was performed by the Rev David McNeur. Miss McNeur presided at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her brother-in-law, was attired in an Air Force blue costume and carried a bouquet of sweet peas and rambler roses. She was attended by Miss Leah O’Connor, .who wore a blue costume and carried a bouquet to tone. The best man was Mr T. Sutherland (Masterton). The reception was held later at the residence of Mr and Mrs Greaves, Renall Street, w'here intimate friends of the bride and bridegroom were received. The couple left later on a tour of the North Island. McLEOD—MARFLITT. ("Times-Age” Special.) St Andrew's Church, Martinborough, was beautifully decorated last evening for the marriage of Zoe Lorraine, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs W. G. Marfiitt. to Russell Eric, younger son 'of Mr and Mrs F. McLeod, "Piitiki."
The ceremony was performed by the Rev F. O. Ball, and Mrs T. Gold played the wedding music. The bride who entered the church escorted by her father, wore an exquisite gown of parchment satin on flowing lines, with double accordeon-pleat-ed collar and hem. A row of tiny buttons finished the back of the bodice, and a diagonal tin-tucked panel flared out to form a train. A second train was formed by the beautiful tulle veil (loaned by a friend) and was held in place by a halo of orange blossom. A shower bouquet of St Joseph lilies completed the toilette. Gowns of cyclamen lace over taffeta were worn by the two attendants —Misses Greta McTaggart and Maureen Nix—and an original note was the three tiny birds worn as head dresses, and they carried posies in blue tonings.
The best man was Mr Bunty Nix (Featherston) and Mr Peter Beale (Wellington) acted as groomsman. During the signing of the register Mrs Brian Feast sang "Ave Maria.” After the ceremony a reception was held in the Parish Hall, where a buffet breakfast was served. Mrs Marfiitt was attired in a gown of black chenille georgette over fuschia satin, with a black straw hat and carried a posy to tone. Mrs F. McLeod’s frock was of French blue lace and georgette with hat to match, and her posy was ■' in autumn tonings. When Mr and Mrs McLeod left ay car on their honeymoon the bride was wearing a lime green model frock with a green summer felt hat and accessories to tone.
