FEATHERSTON

GUNNER H. PIPER GUEST AT FAREWELL PARTY. ("Times-Age” Special.) Mr and Mrs D. M. Jeffrey gave a farewell party in the Odd Fellows’ Hall on Wednesday in honour of Gunner H. Piper. A pleasant time was spent with dancing and music. During the evening Mr Jeffrey, in a few well chosen words, asked Mr Piper to accept a combination travelling set. Mr Piper suitably replied. The gathering concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” SOLDIERS FAREWELLED BOY’ SCOUTS PROMINENT. Featherston residents turned out in good numbers yesterday to give the men returning to camp from their final leave a rousing send-off. Signaller. B. Robinson and Privates N. O’Neale and M. O’Neale left in the morning a:>d Privates A. T. Carlyon, J. Brown and Gunner H. Piper in the afternoon. The Scouts gave their late Scoutmaster, H. Piper a very hearty farewell and entertained those present with well known choruses, the accompaniments being played on a pianoaccordion. The Mayor and Mayoress, Mr J. W. and Miss Card, were present. Mr Card in addressing the soldiers wished them ail a safe return. As the train drew out cheers were given for the rnen. Personal Items. Mrs F. Therkleson, New Plymouth, arrived today on a visit to her sister, Mrs C. J. Carlyon.
