CARTERTON
MAN FOUND DEAD FORMER MAURICEVILLE ’ RESIDENT. ("Times-Age” Special.) Yesterday a young man named Alex Neilsen, who was employed by Mr W. Taylor (Masterton) on a farm in Maungaterere Valley Road, Carrington, was found dead in his house on the farm. The discovery was made by Mr J. Harp, Junr., who is employed by the Carterton branch of the W.F.C.A. Mr Harp was delivering goods to various places in the Carrington district, among them being the house of Mr Neilsen. He called at the place and seeing no one about opened the door to leave his goods and found the body of deceased lying on the floor. He immediately reported the matter and the Carterton police and Dr W. J. C. Wells went out to the scene, the latter pronouncing life to be extinct. A brother was located in Masterton and he was informed of the death by the police. Deceased was at one time a resident of West Mauriceville. BOWLING CARTERTON CLUB GAMES. Two club games were played on the Carterton green last evening and resulted as follows: — Champion pairs: Bain and Tucker (s) defeated Callender and Morton (s), 22/12. Progressive pairs: Newbould and Hughan (s) beat Hawker and Sorensen (s), 22/21. * SOLDIERS FAREWELLED ON WAY TO TRENTHAM CAMP. The Carterton district members of the First Echelon returned to the camp at Trentham yesterday afternoon, and were farewelled by a large crowd at the railway station. The strain was felt by some womenfolk as ' the train moved off. It is understood that another opportunity will be given to relatives and friends to see the men on Wednesday afternoon next at the Trentham camp, which will be open to the public. i Personal Items. Mr C. Wadham, of Wellington, son of Mr and Mrs W. Wadham, of Brooklyn Road, who has been staying with his parents for the Christmas holidays, left today to complete his vacation with his uncle at St. Helier’s Bay, Auckland. Mr and Mrs C. Butter, of Marton, are visitors to Carterton and are staying with Mr Butter’s parents, Kent Street. Mr George Sewell, son of Mr and Mrs B. Sewell, of Seddon Street, left this morning for Weraroa, where he will go into military camp. ,
