♦- CENTRAL DISTRICT. . ENLISTMENT POSITION, (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Since recruiting began 15 weeks ago 6101 men have volunteered in the Central Military District. Of these 3571 have been classed as fit, 2435 have been sent to camp and there is a balance of 756 available for the second echelon. This is short of the number (1000) now being sought from Wellington alone in the recruiting campaign. The district is divided into four areas. Number 5 area (Wellington and environs and the Hutt Valley) has contributed 2380 volunteers (1302 fit. 1058 in camp and 196 available); No. 6 area (Wanganui-Palmerston North). 1095 (673 fit, 446 in camp, 166 available); No. 7 (Hawke's Bay-Wairarapa) 1662 (995 fit. 504 in camp. 309 available); No. 8 area (Taranaki). 964 (601 fit. 427 in camp. 85 available). The proportion of lit men to enlistments in the district is 67 per cent. With the temporarily unfit men made fit for service —in most cases this is a matter of more than six hours' dental treatment—the eventual fit percentage will bo 70. The percentage of permanently unfit mon to total registrations is 13 per cent. Reserved occupations take 473 men in the 6101.
