Two overseas visitors to Masterton are Mrs Terry and Mrs Taylor, of Los Angeles, U.S.A. Miss N. Caldwell (Wellington) is visiting her mother, Mrs Caldwell, Hessey Street, Masterton.

Messrs J. and W. Todd (Otane) and Mr and Mrs J. McKay (Wellington) are guests at the Midland Hotel. Masterton.

Mr and Mrs G. K. Morrison, of Epsom, Auckland, are on a visit to Masterton and are staying at the Braeburn private hotel. They will be here for about a fortnight. The Rev J. A. F. Watson, minister of John Knox Church, Rangiora, for the last six years, has received a call to Riverton, Southland, and will leave Rangiora about the end of February. Among the guests at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Masterton this week have been S. W. Parker (Auckland), H. O. Mackley, Miss D. G. Hunt (Feilding), W. C. and Miss Joy Sorensen (Mangatainoka). Mr and Mrs W. Fanning (Upper Hutt),’J. Allan (Featherston), Mr and Mrs W. R. Crews, W. Morrison, J. Larsen. C. A. Larsen, P. Broad (Wellington).

Speaking at the gathering held in Greytown to soldiers in the New Zealand special force. Mr J. F. Thompson mentioned the record for service put up by the Barnard family, one of whom. Mr J. W. Barnard, is president of the Greytown branch of the R.S.A. Five members of the family, said Mr Thompson, had enlisted for service in the last war. and the sixth, the youngest member (who was a guest at the gathering), had enlisted for the present war. and was now in uniform. The members of the Hibernian Society met in Masterton last night and made a presentation of a pocket wallet to Sergeant Ron Johnston, a member of the New Zealand Special Force, who will leave New Zealand shortly. Wishes were extended to Sergeant Johnston for a safe return to New Zealand. Sergeant Johnston was formerly a member of the Red Star senior football team and played for some years in the Wairarapa representative team. Last season he was a member of the Eketahuna senior football team, and played for the Bush representatives. Mr Keith D. Anderson, M.A.. has been appointed headmaster of the North Sydney Church of England Preparatory Grammar School. Mr Anderson was educated at the Hamilton High School, and later attended Auckland University College. He took up teaching as a profession, and joined the stall of the Takapuna Grammar School. He next joined the staff of the Dunedin Technical College, and has lately been on the staff of the Wanganui Technical College. Mr Anderson. who is a former well-known Auckland University and Auckland Rugby representative footballer, will leave for Sydney early in the New Year.
