MOTOR CYCLE ACCIDENT
MASTERTON MAN INJURED. FOUND ON CARTERTON ROAD. At 7.40 o’clock last evening, when Mr N. T. Heapy. of Gerytown, was proceeding toward Masterton in his motor car and was approaching a small bridge on the Masterton-Carterton main highway, he noticed a motor cycle and man lying in the centre of the road near Mr Reynolds’s property. He stopped and saw that a man he did not know had met with a serious accident. With the assistance of others who had gathered after he arrived on the scene, he removed the cycle and the injured man to the side of the road, and communicated with the Carterton police. Masterton was also notified and a taxi arrived and took the injured man to the Masterton Hospital. It was ascertained that the cycle had skidded on the road and getting out of control had collided with the west wing of the bridge, with the result that the rider was thrown heavily to the road and injured. The cycle lamp and front of the machine were damaged.
The police later ascertained that the injured man’s name was Cyril Sutherland and that he resided at No 8, Third Street, Lansdowne.
On enquiry at the Masterton Hospital this morning it was stated that Mr Sutherland was making satisfactory recovery, his injuries not being serious.
