Mishna Wins at Manawatu in Splendid Finish NORSEMAN TAKES ST. ANDREW’S HANDICAP. AT DUNEDIN NOTIUM SUCCESSFUL IN NEW PLYMOUTH HANDICAP (BY “CARBINE.”) At the concluding day of the Manawatu meeting at Awapuni yesterday the consistent Mishna returned to the winning list in the Liverpool Handicap with a solid finishing run. The Bigot was set to win all the way, and was well clear after going two furlongs in the run home. However, he weakened, and Play On put in his claim after lying in the rear early. ’He had no difficulty in heading off The Bigot, but was unable to withstand Mishna's finish. However, Play On’s saddle slipped back, and Broughton was unable to get the best out of him. The Wood Handicap went to Night Eruption and the Champion Hack race to Classform. The principal event of the day at the New Plymouth meeting yesterday, the New Plymouth Handicap, resulted in one of the best contests of the meeting, Notium winning in a desperate finish. Halfway down the straight Race Call, Te Hai, Prince Rang! and The Dozer were in line, fighting hard for the mastery. Then Notium finished with a great run along the rail, to displace them in the last stride and win by half a head from Race Call, who beat The Dozer by a head.

Norseman accounted for the St Andrew's Handicap at the Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting at Wingatui, just beating Wild Career (an outsider), with Thermidor a neck away. The Flying Handicap fell to Nigger Boy, who headed Kilrobe by half a length.
