The extent of Government interference in British industry' since the outbreak of war is revealed in a letter from a large Leeds manufacturer to an Auckland business man. "When this war is finished," lie writes, "we shall have a'job on in this country with the numerous officials springing up. They are only human and will all want to hang on to their jobs, then the fun will start. If the State wants to be supreme then they should take over the businesses. together with their liabilities; then we manufacturers could simply carry out instructions, and. when, we are too tired to work, draw a pension from the State.”
