STOPPED SHORT
ATTEMPTED ENEMY RAID ON FIRTH OF FORTH RETREAT BEFORE BRITISH FIGHTERS. ONE NAZI PLANE ENGAGED. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.50 a.m.) RUGBY, December 22. The Air Ministry announces that: “Enemy aircraft were reported off the Firth of Forth this morning. Fighter aircraft were sent up to intercept them. At a considerable height, contact was made with an enemy aircraft identified as a Heinkel 3. On being engaged, the Heinkel dived into clouds, but was followed by the leader of our own formation. On emerging between two layers of cloud, the' enemy was re-en-gaged, and after a further attack by the fighter continued its dive and was lost in a lower cloud, level,”
