SOLDIERS FAREWELLED

♦ GATHERING AT MT BRUCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The settlers of the Mount Bruce district held one of the most successful and enjoyable gatherings yet recorded in that district, in the Mount Bruce hall last night. The floor was in good order, and visitors were present from all parts of the Wairarapa. The music was provided voluntarily, the musicians present taking turn about playing, the result being an excellent variety of splendid music. An entirely community affair, the function was in honour of Private Jim Barnes, who is shortly to leave with the First Echelon of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force for service overseas. The presentation of a handsome pocket wallet was made by Mr T. Wyeth on behalf of the settlers of the district. Mr Eric Meurk was an efficient M.C.. and kept proceedings going with a swing. Supper was served by the ladies of the district, and was an outstanding feature of the gathering. The singing of Auld Lang Syne brought to a close a memorable occasion.

BIDEFORD GATHERING. W. A. Falloon "Bowlands." Bideford. In making the presentation of a well-tilled wallet. Mr J. Donald. Mt Clyde. Bideford, in referring to the guest of the evening’s personal qualities wished Private Falloon God speed and a safe return from service overseas. Private Falloon suitably replied.
