OBITUARY
MR CHARLES HOLMWOOD. An old and respected resident of Mount Bruce, Opaki, passed away last evening in the person of Mr Charles Holmwood. The late Mr Holmwood was born in Melbourne. Australia, 77 years ago. He was the eldest son of Captain and Mrs C. Holmwood. His father who was a well-known mercantile captain, removed with his family to Scotland where Mr Holmwood was educated. On completing his education he was employed for a short period by his uncles, Messrs Holmwood and Holmwood, shipping owners and agents. He arrived in the Wairarapa at the age of 18 years and had since resided at Mt. Bruce. He was a member of early Masterton football clubs, and ever since had been a keen supporter of Rugby. He was of a retiring disposition. He is survived by a widow, two sons, Messrs C. Holmwood (Te Ore Ore) and E. Holmwood (Mt. Bruce), and one daughter. Mrs J. W. Bird (Masterton), besides a sister, Mrs A. C. Stewart. (Whangarei), and two brothers. Messrs Allan Holmwood (Napier) and Bernard Holmwood (Masterton). There are also five grandchildren. The funeral will leave St. Mattehew’s Church tomorrow, following a service commencing at 2 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery.
