SOCIAL AND DANCE SOLDIERS FAREWELLED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Odd Fellows’ Hall was filled to capacity last night, on the occasion of a public send off to Captain Geoff Bedding, Private M .C. Clarkson, Signaller R. Anderson and Driver C. Burling. Dancing was the main item of enjoyment for the evening, and this was kept going merrily under the capable direction of Messrs Greathead and Rogers. Vocal items were rendered by Mr F. Robinson, who responded to several encores. Extras for the dancing were played by Mrs Curry and Mr R. Hufford. During the supper interval the Mayor congratulated the guests of the evening on accepting service to uphold the traditions of the British Empire. He asked them to uphold the true spirit of citizenship and wished them God speed, a safe journey overseas and return to New Zealand. He asked the guests to accept, tokens of esteem and goodwill from those gathered to bid them “Au Revoir,” Safety razors were presented to Capt Bedding and Private Clarkson and wristlet watches to Signaller Anderson and Driver Burling. The guests responded thanking the Mayor, and the public, for their generous action in providing the farewell and presentations. They were accorded musical honours, the music being played by Mrs Curry. Dancing was resumed until a late hour. AMATEUR ATHLETICS MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Amateur Athletic Club was held in the Fire Station last night. Mr S. Daniell presided over a fair attendance of members. The matter of the club sending a representative to the country clubs championship, was left in the hands of the assistant secretary (Mr C. Hausman). The programme was completed for the annual meeting to be held on February 3, the day on which Eketahuna and district will hold its Centennial celebrations. The chairman extended seasonal greetings to members which were heartily reciprocated. , Personal. Mr T. Hooper, who, some time ago. had the misfortune to injure his shoulder, underwent an X-Ray examination at the Masterton Hospital, yesterday. Air Mechanic N. Kendall, is expected to arrive home on Saturday on nine days’ Christmas leave. Mr B. Lobban intends spending the Christmas vacation in Christchurch, crossing over. Mr and Mrs A. Ramsay leave on Boxing Day on a fortnight's visit to the former's brother at Dunedin.
