TRIBUTE TO TROOPS
ON SNOWBOUND WESTERN FRONT IMPRESSIONS OF BRITISH PRIME MINISTER. DISTRIBUTION OF CHRISTMAS SUPPLIES. By Telegraph—Press Association—CnuvrishT LONDON. December 19. The Prime Minister. Mr Chamberlain. returned to England after an active day on the snowbound Western Front. In a broadcast he testified to his enjoyment of the visit to France, the deep impression created by the troops and the air components and his amazement at the proficiency that has soon been attained. He expressed delight at the excellent relations between the British troops and the French civilians. Mr Chamberlain wished all ranks “a happy Christmas and the best of luck in the new year.” Paris reports that the Tommies are patrolling no-man’s-land with one eye on the enemy and the other on the supplies for Christmas. All are in excellent spirits. The Christmas supplies are coming through well, and thousands of puddings from. England are being distributed. Socks, scarves and pullovers from the bases are greatly appreciated on these dark, cold and wet day».
