The Right Breeding. The Auckland Cup candidate, Hot Eox. who won the Great Northern Guineas last season, was successful in the Poland Cup ,11 furlongs, at Ohinemuri first up this term, and although he has failed in three starts since, he. has gone fair races under good weights. He is a son of Cape Horn out of the Valkyrian—Pebble II mare Iseball. an imported line of which he is the best representative to date, though it is attractively pedigreed. descending from the great Paraffin through.a halfsister to Illuminata, the dam of Ladas tDerby) and Chelandry, this being the taproot from which have come Heroic, Magpie, Rossendale, and others noted for their staying descendants.

Spanish Lad Training Well. Reports from the south state that Spanish Lad has trained on well since winning at Invercargill. Goldsbro to Ride Balinavar. It is reported that C. G. Goldsbro will have the mount on Balinavar in the Auckland Cup. Interrupted Preparations. Both Dark Flight and Gold Flight have had interrupted preparations this season owing to contracting colds, A southern writer reports that both horses are a bit backward owing to their preparation being interfered with by colds. Apparently Dark Flight contracted a cold after showing remark-, able brilliancy at the New Zealand Cup meeting. It is. however, stated that Dark Flight has been struck out of the Federal Handicap because the owner is dissatisfied with the weight allotted his horse.

Beaupartir in Form. Because of the rain the form on the second day at Woodville may not be very reliable for the holiday racing, but it proved that Beaupartir is in good order for his engagements at Auckland, which include the Cup. Woodville form has often proved a fairly reliable guide to events at Ellerslie in December, and, though the distance over which Beaupartir Won wtis only six furlongs, he has to be given credit for winning in solid stylo and he is in excellent condition for the northern race, in which he will be ridden by W. Broughton. FIXTURES. December 23, 26, 27 —Manawatu December 26—Waipukurau. December 26 —Westland. December 26, 27—Dunedin. December 26, 27 —Taranaki. December 26, 28, January 1, 2—Auckland. December 30, January I—Wairarapa.1—Wairarapa. December 30, January I—Greymouth.
