A Comparison. If Peony Rose had been nominated for the Wyndham Cup and treated on the same lines as at Wingatui, she would be meeting Boswell on the same terms as in the Otago Handicap. Swordstick would be meeting her on 21b worse terms, Queen of Song. Sailing Lady, and Mona’s Song on 21b better terms, Passaform, Chirp, and Merry March on 41b better terms, and Alma on 11b better terms. Swordstick has the worst of the deal.
The Aga Khan. An English paper describes the Aga Khan as blunt and businesslike over his horses. On one occasion an Indian Prince, famed for his horsemanship, paid a visit to the Aga Khan’s stables in England. He saw the future Derby winner Blenheim, at exercise and asked if he might ride the horse. To his surprise he met with a polite but firm refusal. "You are a great rider, I know,” said his host, ‘‘but you are not a jockey. Riding a horse like that is a business, and the business is that of a jockey.”
Catalogue a Doubtful Starter. It is reported that Catalogue is a doubtful starter at the Auckland Cup meeting. He may not start again until the Wellington Cup meeting.
