AVOID CHEAP LOTIONS
WHEN SHAMPOOING HAIR. I SOME USEFUL HINTS. When you shampoo your hair do you just wet it with water, apply any old soap, and then rinse it out. or do you give it ,Ihe thorough shampoo and beauty treatment which it requires? Cheap shampoo preparations should always be avoided, and, when we say cheap, we do not necessarily mean in price, but in quality. Just because you have some soap in the house which is used for washing clothes and floors, do not think that it is suitable for your hair. If you are in the habit of using cake soap on your hair instead of liquid shampoo you will find that it is much more.satisfactory if you change your soap into a liquid. It is quite simple. Cut the soap into shavings with a knife, add water, and boil over a slow flame until a soapy pulp results. Then add enough water to make at least a quart of shampoo. Before shampooing your hair, first brush it vigorously, then wet the hair with warm water, and pour your warm shampoo lotion over the head and massage it vigorously until the scalp is covered with heavy shampoo foam. Apply plenty of the shampoo mixture, and after the hair has been thoroughly soaped wash off with hot water. Hot water is more efficient in removing grease and dirt than warm water.
Lather and Rinse. Now again lather your head and again rinse, and repeat the rinsing until the scalp and hair are thoroughly cleansed. This is important, and ,if possible a spray or shower should boused so that every vestige of soap and dirt, is removed. Washing your hair is only half the process, and to have a proper beauty shampoo you must also pay particular attention to the drying. Sit in the sunshine, or in front of a sunny window, and allow the air to circulate freely through the hair. This will keep the scalp in a healthy condition. Of course, there are many types of shampoos, just as there are many types of hair conditions, and if your scalp is not normal one of the following shampoos may help you. -Hot oil shampoo is very popular, and is carried out by applying some almond o olive oil to the nair prior to shampooing. Dry shampoos are excellent when we have a cold and are afraid of wetting the hair. Mix together one cupful of cornmeal and a tablespoonful of salt. Shake it well through the entire head and then brush it out carefully with a stiff-bristled brush. This will remove the grime and oil. Another method is to beat together the whites of two eggs. Then apply with a toothbrush throughout the hair and allow to dry. When dry brush out with a stiff-bristled brush. This type of dry shampoo will leave the hair soft and glossy. For Blonde Hair. Egg shampoo is used for blonde hair, hair which is excessively dry, or where the scalp is extremely tender. Beat together three or four eggs, and after wetting the hair massage the egg-pulp well into the scalp and hair, then rinse it off and apply* a second coating of the beaten-up eggs. When using water with this type of shampoo care must be taken to use only luke-warm water, as otherwise the eggs will congeal, and it will be very difficult to remove them from the hair and scalp. Henna shampoo is exceedingly simple, and gives ar eddish colour to the hair shaft. The colour is permanent, and cannot be removed if unsuitable. Mix. your henna powder to a creamy consistency with boiling water. Then after you have shampooed your hair, and. while it is still wet. work the creamy henna slowly into the scalp and allow to remain on the hair for five to fifteen minutes, remembering that the longer the henna remains in contact with the hair the more reddish will be the ultimate shade. At hte expiration of the time wash the henna from the hair.
