CHRISTMAS MUSIC
"THE MESSIAH.” PRESENTATION AT METHODIST CHURCH. The seasonal and beautiful Oratoric "The Messiah" was presented as the main act of worship in the Methodist Church last night, the service being conducted by the Rev Frederick J. Parker. Under the baton of Mr S. 11. Ralph, the augmented choir gave verj fine interpretations of the choruses of the Messiah, the great climaxes of the theme being worked out splendidly, culminating in the moving peon o' praise in the "Hallelujah Chorus. In the very exacting solo work of the oratorio the soloists revealed fine talent and splendid interpretative power which added greatly to the general effect. Those taking the leading part) were: Soprano, Miss D. Jamieson and Miss O'Donnell; contralto. Mrs H. Speight and Mrs A. Graham: bass. Mi D. Irwin: tenor. Mr F. Clarke. At the organ Miss Constance Donald, L.R.S.M. had a heavy task in (he many rapid and intricate accompaniments to be played but her fine accurate work helped in no small measure in the successful presentation. Mr Ralph and his choir were warmly congratulated on a very fine rendition of Handel's great masterpiece
