HOMING PIGEONS
MASTERTON CLUB. FINAL OLD BIRD RACES. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club flew the two final races of the old bird season with a race from the north from Opua, 410 miles, and from Timaru in the south, 315 miles airline distance. Only two birds from Opua homed in race time, the result being:—W. Steer’s "Negroid." 16hrs 30min 4sec 1: W. J. Miller's "Night Raider,” 18hrs smin 2sec 2. This was the final of the three races for the North Island Rose Bowl, the highest number of points being gained by W. J. Miller, with W. Steer runner up. The race from Timaru was won by Stears and Miller, who had the only arrival on the day. the bird taking 13hrs Gmin lOsec, thereby winning both the South Road Cup and the South Island Shield. W. Steer was the winner of the points prize for the old bird season, with W. J. Miller runner up. The first race of the young bird season will be flown on February 3
