CARTERTON

FIRE AT PARKVALE FARMER’S HEAVY LOSS. (“Times-Age” Special.) A disastrous outbreak of fire occurred on Mr C. Swinn’s property, Woodlands Road, Parkvale, on Saturday afternoon, when the hayshed, milking plant, cart and implement shed were destroyed. Mr Swinn was away cutting hay on a neighbour’s property, and the only person at home was Mrs Swinn. When the outbreak was noticed it had a good hold, and there was no chance of saving anything. Neighbours rendered what assistance they could. Three hundred and fifty bales of new hay were in the shed, and it is thought spontaneous combustion was the cause of the fire. Beside the bales of hay, Mr Swinn lost a dray, harness, tools, and the whole of his milking plant. The loss is much heavier than the amount covered by the insurance. Personal. Messrs Bryan Quinn and Dick Quinn have arrived in Carterton from College at Dunedin. Borough Council. The final meeting of the Carterton Borough Council for 1939 will be held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. Accident to Te Wharau Resident. Mrs R. J. Trethewey, of Te Wharau, had the misfortune when getting over a fence last weekend to fall and break a small bone in an ankle. She was brought in to Dr. Wells at Carterton, who attended to the injury. Mrs Trethewey is now an inmate of Croydon Hospital.
