The Rev J. M. Simpson has returned to Masterton from a visit to Wellington.
Mr Harold ("Mace") Thompson, of Elizabeth Street. Masterton. has had to enter the Masterton Hospital for treatment.
Mr W. Howard Booth. Carterton. a vice-president of the Royal Agricultural Society, has returned home aftei a visit to the Roval Show in Invercargill.
Mr J. M. Jenkin, of the New Zealand Special Military Force is at present in Masterton on final leave. His brother. Mr Robert Jenkin, has taken up duties as Flight Mechanic in the R.N.Z.A.F.. and is stationed at the New Plymouth aerodrome.
Mr A. Li. Lewis, recently appointed airport manager for Pan American Airways at Auckland has arrived from Noumea. He will take the place of Mr D. Walker, who has been transferred to Honolulu. Mr Lewis was stationed in Auckland two years ago. The friends of Mr Arthur Phillpotts. of Masterton. and formerly of Carterton. will be pleased to learn that he is progressing favourably after his operation in the Masterton Hospital. He will, however, be an inmate of the institution for a week or two longer.
In connection with the examinations held by the Wellington Chamber of Commerce throughout New Zealand the following Masterton candidates were successful: — Book-keeping: Pass. Percy C. Braggins, Joyce E. Rutherford. Keith H. Spackman. William O. Thomson. Mary Tocher, Heather L. M. Wilson. Office practice: Pass _ with distinction. Keith H. Spackman. Handwriting: Pass. Keith H. Spackman.
Dr. Chaim Wardi. of the Hebrew University' of Jerusalem, is visiting New Zealand with credentials from the Government of Palestine, at the instance of the board of governors of the University of Jerusalem, to establish relations' with scientific institutions here and to interest Jewish circles in the development of the university. Dr. Wardi is lecturer in Italian and the history of Italian civilisation.
