EKETAHUNA

WORK ON THE FARM MAKING OF ENSILAGE. ("Times-Age” Special.) Farmers throughout the district, especially'those who have dairy herds, are making preparations for the supply of extra feed when grass is short, and are determined not to be caught unprepared as was the case early in the present year. The making of ensilage is being undertaken by many farmers. The dairy season promises at present to be a successful one. Several herds have been increased in size and with the more modern methods, adopted there should be a satisfactory return for those farms which are managed on proper lines. Pig farming is engaging the attention to a greater extent than formerly, as it is now recognised that there is a good profit to be made out of the sale of pigs. An excellent example of enterprise in pig farming has been set by Mr Arthur Golder, of Nireaha, and formerly a resident of Masterton. Pastures and stock generally are looking well. The recent rain has brought the grass away in splendid style and for some time there should be a sufficient supply of grass. Everywhere throughout the district there is evidence of more progressive ideas being adopted in connection with farming, and with a continuation of this spirit there should be a particularly bright future ahead of the district, especially in regard to dairying where heavy culling is doing much to get rid of the "robbers” in the herd and so provide the farmer with a better return for his outlay. Personal Items. The friends of Mr E. Goss, Sent’., of Nireaha, will be pleased to learn that he has fully recovered from his illness. Mr and Mrs H. S. Aldrich, of Hamilton, have arrived in Eketahuna on a visit to Mrs Aldrich's mother, Mrs G. T. Allen. Mr Aldrich has received notice of transfer to the Kaikohe branch of the Bank of New Zealand, which will take effect early next month. Messrs Jan Suter, R. Anderson, O. Evans, I. Fulton and Christensen, of the Special Force, have arrived in’ Eketahuna on final leave.

At the Rongomai school building on Wednesday the residents of the district will tender a farewell social tc Messrs O. Evans, I. Fulton and K. Gitstofsen, who are on final leave from the special military force.
