INTIMATION BY URUGUAY

The Uruguayan Foreign Minister, Senor Alberto Guani. announced that his Government has granted a request 2—lntimation by Uruguay .s76lme-(e by the German Government for the Admiral Graf Spee to remain till repairs can be made, states the Montevideo correspondent of the American Associated Press. Senor Guani said that the period the Admiral Graf Spee may remain would be established after a survey by the Uruguayan naval authorities. It would not be long. Time would be allowed for repairs necessary to enable the warship to navigate, but repairs elsewhere would not be taken into consideration. It was earlier stated that Uruguay had informed Germany that the pocket battleship would not be permitted to remain for more than 24 hours, and informed quarters would not be surprised if the battleship chose to be interned, although dramatic developments were expected. The Paris radio announced that the Montevideo dockyard engineers refused a request by the German Embassy to repair the Admiral Graf Spee. Despite the reported damage to H.M.S. Exeter, the Montevideo correspondent of the United Press reports that the Ajax and the Exeter steamed out to sea early on December 14. A message from Bahia Blanca states that the Exeter is expected off the Mar del Plata before morning en route to the Peurto Belgrano dry dock. It is stated from Puerto Belgrano that a plane from the Exeter is reported to have arrived with three men gravely wounded, two of whom later died. Th commander of the Exeter earlier requested permission to land in Montevideo 100 men in order to attend the funerals of the Admiral Graf Spee’s dead.
