BRITISH NAVAL FORCES READY FOR GRAF SPEE
Renown and Ark Royal on Their Way EARLIER MOVEMENTS OF CAPITAL SHIPS REVEALED « QUESTION OF REPAIRS TO GERMAN VESSEL (By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright.) LONDON. December 15. Following’ the successful action against the German pocketbattleship, Admiral Graf Spee, and her crippled retreat into Montevideo harbour, it is confirmed by local British diplomatic circles that the cruiser Cumberland (of 10,000 tons, with eight eight-inch guns) has arrived in Uruguayan waters and is joining the guard over the battleship. They add that it is very likely that the battlecruiser Renown (32,000 tons, with six 15-inch guns) and the aircraft-carrier Ark Royal are speeding to Montevideo. A Cape Town message says it is now permissible to reveal that the Ark Royal arrived there on December 3 with the Renown. The two sailed on the next day for an unknown destination. Reuters learn in London that reinforcements for the cruisers make any movement of the Admiral Graf Spee impossible.
