WEDDING

RYAN—MUIR. A wedding ih which considerable interest centred was celebrated at St. Patrick's Church, Broadway Avenue, Palmerston North, recently, when Elizabeth Patricia (Betty), second daughter of Mr J. W. Muir, city electrical engineer, and Mrs Muir, was married to Leo Owen, third son of Mr D. P. Ryan and the late Mrs D. P. Ryan, formerly of Eketahuna. The church had been beautifully decorated with Christmas lilies and watsonia, also bowls of hydrangeas and ixias, by the Sisters of Mercy, to provide a delightful setting for the bride and her maids. The Rev. Father Keegan performed the ceremony, Miss Cora Bartlett playing the wedding music, and during the signing of the register Miss Dorothy Mathieson gave an artistic rendering of “Ave Maria.” Escorted by her father, the bride looked most picturesque in her graceful frock of white silk ninon, the neckline of which was finished with a draped fichu held in front with a spray o' white roses the bodice being fastened at the back with five large pearls. The skirt was folded, swathed and shirred to the back to become a long, flounced bustle, and her head-dress from which fell her tulle veil, was of rosebuds and azaleas placed high on her piled up Edwardian coiffure. A bouquet of roses, azaleas and maiden-hair fern provided the finishing touch. There were two maids in attendance, Miss Nancy Muir, sister of the bride, and Miss Marie Luoni. of Wellington, who were dressed alike in frocks of palest pink French organza, patterned with nosegays of deeper pink rosebuds. The bodices had heart-shaped necklines and puffed sleeves and the skirts were very full and finished at the back with double looped bustles. They wore tiny pink roses in their hair and carried bouquets of pink oses, carnations and maidenhair fern. Mr Eric Ryan, brother of the bridegroom, was best man and Mr R. B. Stevenson carried out the duties of groomsman.

At the reception following held at the home of the bride’s parents in Carlton Avenue. Mr and Mrs Muir entertained some 90 guests most hospitably. Mrs Muir wore a model frock of admiral blue eloque with parma ballibuntal hat. and her posy was of roses, carnations and pansies to tone. Mrs D. P. Ryan, of Eketahuna, sister-in-law of the bridegroom, assisted, wearing a light-weight coat of tabac brown over a navy frock and a hat to tone. Mrs C. M. turner, of Raetihi, sister of the bride, wore a grey frock with tan accessories and silver fox fur. The reception rooms were beautiful with gerberas, delphiniums and roses. The usual felicitations were offered and toasts honoured, and later Mr and Mrs Ryan left by car for a lour of the nortii, the bride travelling in a smart suit of dove grey woollen sheer, a grey felt hat trimmed with buttercup cire, a buttercup blouse and accessories to tone. Mr and Mrs Ryan will take up their residence at Blenheim.
