STOCK DISPLAYS VERY HIGH STANDARD. At the conclusion of the judging of lambs and calves in. connection with the Wairarapa Boys’ and Girls' Agxicultural classes, the president of the group, Mr L. A. Keats, in thanking those present for their attendance and for the great interest displayed in the calf and lamb rearing and handling, sM'd that last year he had eulogised the way in which the children had come forward with their exhibits and the very fine class of stock. Last year's entry as regards breed and conditions and handling was a great effort, but animals shown this year were a much better lot and the entries were greater. He appealed to parents to encourage their children to take an interest in the agricultural side of education. The stock exhibits were a very great credit to all concerned, and the judges had a hard task in making their awards. He called upon the Patron of the Agricultural Classes, Mr G. H. Perry, to say a few words. , Mr Perry spoke very encouragingly to the children. He had been present at their competition last year and was sure that the calves and lambs exhibited this year were a long way ahead of last year’s animals in quality. It was pleasing to see the way in which the children handled their exhibits. He said that they all appreciated the work of the judges who had had a very difficult task in making their awards. He was pleased to see the splendid cooperation that existed and hoped this spirit would continue. Mr Brockett said this year's exhibition had been a good one. One thing, however, struck him in connection with the awards and that was that all the prize winners were girls, except one or two. and it seemed to him that in future father would have to stay at home and do the cooking and housework. He thought that perhaps more interest could be instilled if judging were carried out at the schools where the schemes originated. If this were done they would have keener interest taken in the contests. CHAMPION HUNTER SCOUT SUCCESS AT ROYAL SHOW. Mr B. R. McGuinness’s champion hunter Scout won the Dominion Centennial Royal Championship jumping competition at the Royal Show Invercargill. thus winning outright the trophy valued at 40 guineas presented by Mr A. McDonald. Masterton, and Mr W. T. Hazlett. Invercargill.
