PARENTS’ DAY GATHERING ENTERTAINMENT BY CHILDREN. • PRESENTATION OF CERTIFICATES AND SPECIAL AWARDS. There was a large attendance of parents at lhe annual parents’ day gathering held at the Lansdowne School yesterday. Mr H. E. Pither, chairman of the school committee presided. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Pither and Drummond, and Mr J. Robertson, M.P. A very pleasing programme of choir items, folk dancing, drill, and choral speaking was given by the pupils „ while the infants won applause by their realistic action songs. In addressing the gathering the headmaster, Mr J. W. T. Jones, expressed the appreciation of the school for the loyal co-operation given by the school committee. Home and School Association and members of the staff. Special reference was made to the excellent work done at the hospital by Miss N. Allan, the teacher in charge of the special class. In presenting the certificates to the Form 2 pupils Mr Pither complimented the staff on their splendid work and expressed the gratitude of the school committee for the support given during the year. The following special awards were made: —Dux of school, Philip Parr; proximo accessit, Dawn Harding; second highest marks for boys, lan Robertson; second highest marks for girls. Mavis Jones. Primary school certificates were presented to all the pupils of Form 2 while the certificates won at the Carterton P. and A. Show were also presented. Mr J. G. McFarlane, secretary of the school committee, also spoke and asked for a continuation of the support so readily given by parents. A very creditable display of work done by the pupils of the school was on view and complimentary remarks were passed on the high standard of efficiency shown by the pupils. At lhe conclusion of the programme each child was presented with an icecream bon-bon.
