“PRIVATE LIVES”
OPERA HOUSE ON SATURDAY. When a divorced pair, each still retaining a lingering regard for the other meet on the French Riviera while each is spending a honeymoon there with his or her new spouse —when the new spouses also meet —when all four, in short get involved in a general “mixup,” it may reasonably be expected that something will happen. When the parties are placed in this situation by Noel Coward, that expectation becomes a certainty. It. is fun to see four people in such a plight, then there will be a feast of fun for all who attend the Thespians’ performance of "Private Lives" at the Opera House on Saturday evening. And unfortunately it must be admitted that the source of most laughter is in the misfortunes of others. The two women concerned arc skilfully contrasted. While both are charming. Amanda (Miss Lesley Jackson) is made to appear also capricious, unorthodox (almost pagan), vivacious and. when roused, a termagant. Sibyl (Miss Doris Mildenhall) on the contrary. is one of those “nice women" from whom Amanda prays heaven to be preserved. Seats may be reserved for Saturday's performance.
