OBITUARY
.MR S. SMITH. The death occurred suddenly at Rangitumau yesterday of a well known resident of the district, Mr Samuel Smith, at the age of 64 years. Mr Smith, who had not enjoyed the best of health recently, was universally respected throughout the Rangitumau and Masterton districts and his death will be deeply regretted by a wide circle of friends. Mr Smith, who was a son of the late Mr and Mrs H. Smith, of Masterton, was born at Tinui. For 17 years he was in the employ of Mr Walter Cameron, Te Ore Ore. He spent ten years in the Hawke's Bay district, six of which was at the Alrig Station. He was a well known rifle shot, and won the C. L. Mackersey Cup for pigeon shooting in 1901. He had been a member of the Druids Lodge since 1902. He leaves a widow and one son as well as three brothers (Messrs R. Smith. Victoria Street. Carterton, and H. and J. Smith. Masterton, to mourn their loss. The funeral will leave the residence of Mr H. Smith. 120 Perry Street, Masterton. tomorrow (Friday) after a service which will be held at the house at 2 p.m.
