CATTLE FAIR
PRICES AT MASTERTON. The Associated Auctioneers report: —We held our final cattle fair of the year in the Colombo Road yards yesterday, when a fairly big entry of cattle was offered to a good attendance. Several buyers were present from the West Coast. We have to report a most successful sale, prices for store cattle, compared with last sale, being up from 20s to 25s per head, and in some cases up to 30s. Generally speaking prices
were more in line with our first spring Cattle Fair. The recent beneficial rains experienced here, and in other districts, no doubt gave buyers confidence. Most of the cattle were in a 1 surprisingly good condition. Big bullocks, of which only a few were yarded, were keenly sought after, while younger steers also met with good competition, but not with the same keenness as the grown cattle. Store cows, most of which were in exceptionally good order, sold particularly well, and chiefly went la a West Coast buyer. Two and three year heifers also made very good values. A large number of fats were offered, but only finished cattle elicited good competition. Light and unfinished cattle were appreciably lower than values at late sale. Our usual sheep sale was also held yesterday. A very nice line of 2-th ewes attracted attention and sold from 29s to 30s, medium 2-th making 25s 6d. Fat sheep made late values.
