MAURICEVILLE

SEND OFF TO SOLDIERS LOCAL ARRANGEMENTS. ("Times-Age” Special.) A large number of residents of the Mauriceville district met last night to consider ways and means of raising funds to give local volunteers in the special services an appropriate sendoff prior to their entering camp. An executive committee was appointed as follows, to arrange and control all functions: —Messrs E. Cheetham (chairman), R. Nicolaison (hon secretary), J. Cameron. J. M. McArley, J. Milner, Mrs Childs. It was decided to hold.the first social and dance on December 21, when a standard form of presentation will be made to each man. The prices for admission was fixed at 2s 6d- for men, and 2s for ladies. There will be no complimentary tickets. The ladies present formed themselves into a general committee to supervise the supper arrangements, Mrs. McAreley being appointed convenor. Mr Charles and Mrs Milner were appointed to arrange for musical talent at the social. The following were appointed to control the function:— Messrs J. Milner, F. Scherf, A. McGovern, A. Wilkin, R. McGovern and J. Bain is to carry out the duties of M.C. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs J. Bain and F. Scherf. The committee anticipate a large attendance for such a worthy object.

Flag Day Appeal. Friday, December 16, will be observed as Flag Day in Mauriceville, when an appeal will be made for funds to assist the men in camp. Radio for School. The Eketahuna orchestral and concert party has kindly offered to put on a concert for funds to assist the Mauriceville School committee to procure a radio for the school. The concert will take place on Thursday, December 14. Personal. Miss Pat Childs, of Palmerston North, is visiting her mother and will spend some time in Mauriceville while recuperating from an illness.
