LEVIN CENTENARIAN

MRS HANNAH RETTER. NURSING SERVICE IN EARLY DAYS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) LEVIN, This Day. Mrs Hannah Retter, the only daughter of the late Captain Stickle of the ship Louisa, who was born in Sydney in 1839, celebrates her 100th birthday today. She came to New Zealand when a few weeks old and spent her girlhood in Wellington, afterwards residing in Napier. Porirua and Rangitikei. In 1855, her family came to Levin where she has resided ever since. As she was a nurse, her presence was welcome in many homes in the early days, when there was no resident doctor. She was the recipient today of many congratulatory messages.
