EKETAHUNA
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Eketahuna Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting in St. Cuthbert's Hall. Mrs Carter, who presided, welcomed a new member, and also a Woodville visitor, Mrs Burnett who is the Editor of “Home and Country.” Mrs Burnett was one of a party of Institute members who toured Europe at the beginning of this year. Mrs Carter wished everyone the compliments of the season. The meeting commenced with the singing of the National Anthem, the Ode to Friendship and the recital of the Aspiration and Prayer for Peace. Mrs Burnett then gave a talk on her trip and described the landing in England and the conference of the World. The speaker also referred to world. The speaker also referred to her visit to Holland, Germany, and Switzerland. After the hostesses, Mesdames Burke, Hansen and Doig, had served afternoon tea, a community sing of Christmas carols was enjoyed by all present. The meeting closed with the singing of the New Zealand National Anthem. The competitions were won as follows- —Buttonhole, Mrs Wilson and Mrs Fraser (equal), 1; Mrs Albrechtsen and Mrs Wilson (equal), 2; Mis Albrechtsen, 3. Peasant apron: Mrs Albrechtsen, 1; Mrs Fraser, 2 and 3.
SENIOR CRICKET WIN FOR EKETAHUNA. Eketahuna secured a win over Mangamaire on Saturday at Eketahuna by 2 runs on the first innings. The scores were as follow: — Eketahuna, first innings 64 (W. Leith 29 not out. J. Tredray 15, A. Rowden 10; W. Jensen 2 for 5, J. Welch 1 for 6, M. Fredericksen 5 for 18, R. Signal 1 for 13.) Mangamaire, first innings 62 (M. Fredericksen 20, E. Madsen 10; E. Francois 7 for 20, J. Tredray 2 for 18, S. Payne 1 for 3). The game terminated owing to rain. W. Leith went in first wicket and carried his bat for an excellently compiled 29. E. Francois bowled exceptionally well, taking 7 wickets for 18 runs, including the hat trick. M. Fredericksen made a sound 20 for Mangamaire and also bowled well, securing 5 wickets for 18. Pahiatua defeated Pahiatua Fire Brigade by 12 runs on the first innings. Scores: Pahiatua. first innings 26, second innings 211. Pahiatua Fire Brigade, first innings 14. Pahiatua High School had a bye.
