MEETING IN MASTERTON. FINAL GATHERING OF YEAR. The final meeting of the W.C.T.U. was held on Thursday in the Methodist classroom, Masterton, Miss Tankersley presiding over a fair attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdaines Cocker and Willoughby. Mrs Jansen led the devotions, reading ’part of the 6th chapter of St Luke. A donation of £ 1 was voted to the W.C.T.U. Such considerations would be appreciated. Mrs Speight presented the Temperance fact as follows: ’'Alcohol not only contributes directly and indirectly to accidents, but it is the experience of all physicians that alcohol subjects who meet with an accident have neither the resisting power to withstand the effects of the injury nor have the tissues the healing power of those of abstinent persons. —Sir Thos. Oliver, M.D.” Afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostesses, Mesdames Taylor and Cuthbert. Floral tokens were presented to the president and Mrs Jansen (Evangelistic Superintendent). Several members agreed to visit aged members and hand them floral tokens during the Christmas season.
