In. welcoming the Manawatu bowlers Mr Geo Hayne, president of the Wairarapa Centre, first, thanked the Masterton Clubs for the use of their green and the green superintendents for having provided such excellent playing areas. “The Wairarapa Centre is very pleased to have a visit from such an important centre as Manawatu,” said Mr Hayne. "I know of no other visit by bowlers that attracts such interest, and this I attribute largely to the magnetic personality of your leader and the happy knack that the Manawatu clubs have of attracting to their ranks players of outstanding ability and geniality. This meeting of ours today is a great social | event and I doubt if we care greatly whether we win or lose. When you gentlemen of Manawatu fire your shots whether they be just drawing the shot or the winning shot, we shall applaud . your efforts as if they were our own. I wish you all a particularly happy afternoon. Now, you will agree with me. I am sure, when I say that all great events, whether they be in the life of ' a nation or in the field of sport, should be immortalised in song and we have decided that the great event should be ' no exception to that rule. We have 1 therefore called on the assistance of a ‘ local talented lady, the wife of our popular vice-president, Mr H. Morton, and she has produced for us what will be known in future as the ’Wairarapa Bowling Walk,’ ” Mr J. A. Nash, president of the Manawatu Centre thanked Mr Hayne for his kindly remarks. He said he was sure the Manawatu players would be, treated well and that their visit to the Wairarapa would be well worth while. The Wairarapa bowlers then paraded singing the following verses to the' tunc t of “The Lambeth Walk.”
