Speed is often said to be the keynote of modern life, writes Mr John J. Virgo, the Y.M.C.A. leader, in his book “Fifty Years' Fishing for Men." Mass production dominates industry, and even recreation has become narrowed to an approximation of the common denominator by such mechanical entertainments as the “talkies’’ and wireless. There are too many massproduced minds. I should like to see developed more virile —I do not mean aggressive—personalities, with their basis in the idea of service: service to others, themselves and the community.
